This comprehensive project brought together students from different specializations to conduct thorough financial health assessments for local Brisbane businesses. Teams worked directly with business owners to analyze cash flow patterns, identify cost optimization opportunities, and develop actionable financial strategies. The collaborative nature meant students learned from each other's strengths while building real-world consulting skills.

Team Formation & Business Matching
Week 1-2Students formed diverse teams based on complementary skills and interests. Each team was matched with a local Brisbane business partner ready to participate in the assessment process. Initial meetings established project scope and business objectives.
Data Collection & Analysis Phase
Week 3-8Teams conducted comprehensive financial data gathering, including interviews with business owners, analysis of financial statements, and market research. This phase emphasized collaboration skills as students divided responsibilities and shared insights across different analytical approaches.
Solution Development & Presentation
Week 9-12Final phase focused on synthesizing findings into actionable recommendations. Teams prepared comprehensive presentations for business partners and participated in peer review sessions. Several recommendations were implemented by participating businesses during early 2025.
Working with five other students on the Brisbane SME project taught me more about finance than I could have learned individually. Each team member brought different perspectives – some were strong in data analysis, others in client communication, and I found my strength in coordinating our different approaches into cohesive recommendations.
Our team's cash flow optimization recommendations helped a local café reduce monthly expenses by 23% while improving their inventory management system. Seeing real businesses implement our collaborative work was incredibly rewarding.
